Well, the pipe I have is a mac pipe see link below, IT did lower the profile slightly. The savage has a 2 piece exhaust system, comprising of a headpipe (The pipe from the engine to just under the left footpeg) and a muffler (This is a slip-on muffler , they slip over the headpipe and clamp tightly, with a mounting bolt at the rear to middle portion of the muffler for support. When changing to anything but the stock muffler , 3 things have to be taken into account in california. 1. Pollution. the stock pipe was designed specifically to help reduce pollution by increasing back pressure (Smaller opening than say a supertrapp) 2. Noise. Some places in california will not inspect a vehicle that is not 100% original equipment, especially because there are noise bylaws in certain counties 3. Carburetor adjustment. With any system, exhaust or even plumbing in your home. Increse the size of the exit and you have to increase the entrance accordingly. The carb will have to be adjusted to allow more fuel, if you have a true california model, this involves drilling and tuning with the needle/spacer/re-jetting, dont let this scare you (See previous posts on the subject of the white spacer, carb adjustments, etc.) Hope you have fun with your pipes.
